A CAD-BASED REFINED ZIG-ZAG THEORY FINITE ELEMENT FRAMEWORK USING GMSH SOFTWARE

Abstract

A computational framework for the structural analysis of laminated composite plates is presented. The framework combines geometry and mesh generation in Gmsh software with a Refined Zig-Zag finite element solver written by the author. The imported mesh provides the discretization of the computational domain, while the laminate definition, material data, stacking sequence, RZT kinematics, and analysis procedures remain part of the structural solver of the proprietary software. The paper describes data transfer, mesh topology recognition, local coordinates, external definition of boundary conditions and loads, and Visualization Toolkit (VTK)-based post-processing in ParaView software. The proposed approach provides a practical basis for the analysis of plates and flat-facet shell models with arbitrary CAD-based geometry.
