The reuse of precast reinforced concrete (RC) elements is an effective way to reduce the environmental impact of the construction industry. However, practical implementation remains limited by regulatory, technical, and market barriers. To facilitate reuse, the principles of design for deconstruction should be incorporated into precast structures. This paper reviews current requirements and guidelines for reusing precast RC elements and summarizes experimental studies on dry and semi-dry demountable connections, focusing on their performance across the first and second life cycles. Furthermore, an experimental case study of a demountable connection between a precast RC column and a foundation is presented. The reviewed studies indicate that precast RC elements can be reused, but their behaviour in the second life cycle should be systematically analysed, as they exhibit similar or lower structural performance.
