Abstract

Wind turbine foundations belong to the category of massive concrete structures, in which controlling the temperature rise during the early stage of concrete hardening is of crucial importance for preventing cracks caused by thermal tensile stresses. This paper presents an example of a staged thermal analysis of massive wind turbine foundation within a wind farm in the Republic of Serbia. The analysis was carried out using the finite element method. Special attention was given to the impact of forced concrete cooling systems on the development and attainment of maximum temperatures during the cement hydration process. The calculations were performed in accordance with applicable national and international standards and guidelines, including Eurocode and ACI. The obtained conclusions contribute to a better understanding of the thermal processes and indicate the necessity of applying measures aimed at reducing peak concrete temperatures.
